Sometimes you just need to take a day for yourself, and taking that mental health day may be more important than you think.
There is a growing concern over the prevalence of stress-related disorders. Chronic stress can be detrimental to productivity, as it usually leads to lethargy, apathy and a lack of creative spark.
When you’re feeling stressed out to the point of exhaustion, it can be causing you harm in other facets of your life, like in relationships, in school or at your workplace. The best thing to do in these situations is to take time for yourself, no matter how selfish it may feel to you in the moment.
If you’re having trouble convincing yourself that a day off is what you need, then consider our list on the importance of taking a mental health day.
You’ll be more productive.
It may seem counterproductive to take the day off when you have more tasks on your plate than you can handle, but it’s actually quite the opposite. Consider how much more efficient you are when you’re in a relaxed mindset. Completing one simple task may be a struggle if you’re drained, but when you’re well-rested and rejuvenated, it’s likely that you’ll tackle your day with vigor. Exercising can make you feel more relaxed, so try allocating some time in your day of rest to engage in physical activity at Youfit or in your home. You’ll feel even more rested than before.
You’ll be more creative.
There’s nothing better than taking a day off to get your creative juices flowing. You will be amazed by all the fresh perspective you gain from stepping away from your work for 24 hours. Take the day to meditate at a YouGX yoga class or read. Come back to what you were doing with an improved attitude and new ideas.
You’ll be healthier.
Being in a constant state of stress can have detrimental consequences for your health. Chronic stress has been found to suppress the immune system and to increase the risk of diabetes, ulcers and buildup of plaque in the arteries. When you take the time to consciously rest your body and mind, you will be surprised at how much better you feel afterwards.
