Finding Your “Why” For Getting In Shape

Here at Youfit, each member is entitled to a free personal training assessment with one of our certified YouCoaches. During this assessment, a YouCoach will help you establish your personal goals, determine your current fitness level and create a program for you to stick to.

You’ll complete the most important part of this process before the assessment — finding your “why.” The “why” is your motivation for establishing and reaching the goals that you hope to achieve. It’s what will ultimately determine your success, so it is important to dig deep.

Your “why” can be a number of things. For example, if your goal is to have more energy, you should consider why you want more energy. Do you want to be able to keep up with your kids, or do want to have a more productive work day? Whatever it is, it will serve as the momentum you need to reach your goals as you refer back to it throughout your journey. After all, there will be days when you’d rather just kick back. That’s when you remember your “why.”


Establishing your “why” is crucial to your journey because it considers your beliefs and values—what is truly important to you. Life gets busy, so if you can discover a deeper meaning for getting to the gym, you can find more reasons to follow through with it.

When our clients establish their “why,” we always encourage them to write it down. This creates a sense of permanence and you can physically refer back to it when you don’t feel like putting in the effort.

Once you have your “why” and your goals sorted, the next step is to put your plan into action. With your “why” in mind, you’ll notice that it is considerably easier to get off the couch and over to Youfit.
