Notice that chill in the air? Are you flipping through the calendar and seeing the holidays just ahead? Feeling a tad bit cozier these days? Well, order-up those Pumpkin Spice Lattes, and pull out the fleece blankets, friends—it’s the first day of fall!
But before you get too comfortable, though, we put together this week’s post with a simple goal in mind: helping you focus on fitness through the cooler months—and the holidays—so that you don’t need a ‘summer emergency plan’ when the warmer months roll around again next year. (But don’t worry—we’re not going to tell you to skip the bacon-loaded stuffing or apple pie at Thanksgiving. We’re not crazy.)
So how exactly do we recommend staying on track as the temps drop, and the sweatpants come out?
Enjoy the great outdoors
Henry David Thoreau once said “I believe that there is a subtle magnetism in Nature, which, if we unconsciously yield to it, will direct us aright.” And by aright, we’re pretty sure he meant to “stay on track with our health and fitness goals.” How many times have we said to ourselves that we should get outside more often, leave our cell phones on the table and get some fresh air? Well, here’s your chance. Where a long walk in the summer months probably means heaps of sweat, a shower and a change of clothes, a long walk in the autumn months can leave you feeling re-energized and you’ll have knocked out some great exercise in the process too. So go for it. Put your phone down (right after you finish reading this blog), and go take a walk.
Get ready for 5K season
5K season is coming or, depending on where you live, it’s already here! For the uninitiated, a 5K is a run/race that equates to 3.10 miles. And in the world of distance running, this is the gateway race to those looking to expand into 10Ks, half marathons and beyond. Mix it up by running outdoor and changing the incline or intensity by alternating with the treadmills at your Youfit location. And then, try your hand at your first—or next 5K—to see how much you’ve improved (celebrate with some apple cider, though. You earned it).
Stick to the great indoors
So maybe you’re not too outdoorsy when the temperatures drop. First sign of a chill sends you inside? Well, we know a place that can help you stay on track either way (major hint: It’s us, Youfit). If you’ve never taken a YouGX class, or you’ve just not been to one in a while, this is a great opportunity to come by for a brisk 30-minutes on our Express Circuit or check out our group exercise class schedule and find a routine that suits you—without catching a chill outside. See what we’re offering at select locations by clicking here: https://www.youfit.com/yougx-schedules.
See? Just because it’s Fall doesn’t mean you need to fall off from your goals. Enjoy what the cooler months bring, and mix them into a new, refreshed routine! Visit us at https://www.youfit.com/blog for more tips.
