When we realized that all of November was International Drum Month, we said “now that’s a celebration we can (literally) get down with!” (Although, in the interest of full transparency, we first thought ‘drums’ were a reference to ‘drumsticks;’ sorry, Thanksgiving turkey is still on our mind).
To be fair, though, you can play the drums with turkey legs. Just like this dude.
Jokes aside, the drums are a great accompaniment to some of the best workouts, and more specifically, some of the best workout songs. No Church in the Wild by Kanye West and Jay-Z comes to mind, or 10’s by Pantera, for our fans of the classics. And really, anything by Led Zeppelin’s John Bonham or the Who’s Keith Moon. And just ask those guys – even playing the drums is a great workout on its own! Constant movement, high energy, a use of your arms and core.
Would you believe that one professional drummer in fact burned 600 calories in a single performance, with a heart rate ranging between 140 to 150 beats per minute? It peaked at 190. Wow!
If normal cardio – running, jumping jacks, etc. are too rough on your knees – well, drumming might just be the right fit for you. And hey, you can get pretty good at it too, and then join that turkey drumstick dude from the YouTube video.
