Caffeine fiends unite! September 29 is National Coffee Day. Or International Coffee Day. Or both. I’ll be honest, all of the Google searching is partly inconclusive. Some sites say International Coffee Day is October 1. Maybe it is? Either that, or we just haven’t had our morning cup of coffee, in which case, we apologize for the mix-up.
*Downs a cup of coffee* Ahh, much better.
Regardless of the official celebration day, let’s be honest—we celebrate coffee pretty much every day. And now that fall is here, that means expanding our horizons to include some PSLs too (that’s Pumpkin Spice Latte for the uninitiated. Extra whipped cream? What a silly question—yes, of course).
But wait, isn’t coffee supposed to be unhealthy? Doesn’t it cause insomnia and/or stunt your growth? (Myths, by the way). The truth about coffee, like a lot of things, is somewhere in the middle. Use it in moderation, and enjoy it when you do!
Or drink more of it. Some studies from the National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health indicate that drinking coffee is associated with a lower risk of early death, even with up to 7 cups a day. “In fact, they revealed that drinking up to seven cups every day – twice the amount of caffeine recommended by the UK Food Standards Agency – could cut death rates by 16 percent.”
Of course, just because some studies say to use coffee that often doesn’t mean you have to or need to. But do know that you can include it into your routine without feeling guilty for doing so (Pumpkin Spice Lattes, though? Maybe take it easy on those—they’re loaded with refined sugar and extra calories).
Whether a cup of joe gets you going first thing in the morning, or you drink a cup ahead of your workout to give you a much-needed caffeine boost to push yourself, we say fill that mug with joy—and sip it down with a smile. On National Coffee Day, International Coffee Day, or any day.
So fill your mug and enjoy your favorite brew. And be sure to check back with us at https://www.youfit.com/blog for more fitness tips and lifestyle pointers. Or yeah, maybe a post about coffee.
